This Weeks Best: Albert Williams' review of Carousel in The Reader. I'll admit, like a lot of folks who don't often go to the theatre, I don't know much about many musicals. I didn't have access to them growing up. So when those in the know rattle on about different Sondheim shows vs. Rogers and Hammerstein, all I can do is shrug my shoulders. Though I know very little about Carousel, few reviews I've seen make that seem like it's not a problem.
Honorable Mention: A tie between two additional takes on Carousel: Barbara Vitello's in The Daily Herald and Chris Piatt's in TimeOut Chicago.
This Weeks Worst: Hedy Weiss on Can-Can, in the Sun-Times. If that's all one has to say, why bother?
Dis-Honorable Mention: Tom Williams's review of The Talented Tenth at ChicagoCritic.com. Like Weiss, he tells us what the show's about, but little about it.
You Make the Call: What do you make of Scott Morgan's review of The Misanthrope through the lens of Bravo TV, in the Windy City Times?
Thoughts? Are there any you'd have picked? Let me know what and why in the comments.
